The Queen’s Beasts Collection: A Guide for Gold Coin Investors

The Queen’s Beasts series ran from 2016 and has become one of the most collected modern coin ranges anywhere. The series features ten heraldic beasts that flanked the Queen at her coronation in 1953.

Each coin in the series is a serious piece of design and minting work. From the Lion of England to the White Greyhound of Richmond, the level of detail is part of what has made the range so popular.

For investors, the key feature is that the series is now closed. No new Queen’s Beasts coins will be struck. That puts a hard cap on supply, particularly for examples graded PF69 or PF70.

As legal tender, the gold versions are CGT-free in the UK. The collectible angle adds a numismatic premium on top of the gold value, which has pushed top-grade examples well above where they started.

Grading really matters with this series. The gap between a PF69 and a PF70 example can be a multiple of two to five, simply because perfect coins from each issue are uncommon.

We focus on NGC and PCGS PF69 and PF70 examples, with the strongest demand consistently for the earliest issues and the Completer coin.
